20 January 2020 - Update

Kow Swamp is a culturally significant and biologically diverse expanse of water and vegetation located within Campaspe Shire.

It is also home to the Lions Park picnic grounds, where the toilets and bbq have been decommissioned and are due to be removed in early 2020.

The toilets were decommissioned due to the condition of the waste water system and an inability to meet the conditions required for a new facility. This is due to current environmental health legislation and building code legislation which prohibit waste water systems close to waterways.

Waste water systems must be more than 60 metres from the water so there is no possible position on which to rebuild a toilet block at the same location.

The park is also subject to bank erosion which is expanding, a proposed plan to address the erosion has been drafted and covers the area from the corner of Taylors Creek to the end of the Lions Park. This is a Goulburn Murray Water project.

The Implementation Group (GMW Kow Swamp and On-Water Management Plan Implementation Group) has been working with all groups to identify a suitable community access point to the lake.

Once a suitable access point has been identified, the group can then determine what facilities can be located near that access point.
