Lachlan Shire Australia Day events 20 Jan 2020 9:37 AM -

Lachlan Shire Council Mayor, Councillor John Medcalf OAM, is encouraging residents to participate in the 2020 Australia Day events being staged around the Shire on January 26.

“Australia Day is an opportunity for communities to reflect on what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation,” Councillor Medcalf said. “There are numerous events taking place around the shire where residents can get involved and have lots of fun.”

The Mayor said he is thrilled to have Australia Day Ambassador Ms Melanie Thomas participating in events across the Shire. Ms Thomas will attend the official Lachlan Shire Awards ceremony to be held in Lake Cargelligo this year. She will also be joining the celebrations at Tullibigeal and Burcher.

“Melanie is very much looking forward to chatting to members of the community. I encourage you to come and say hello to her on the day,” said Councillor Medcalf.  “Australia Day is a day to reflect on what’s great about our country and our people – particularly our strong sense of community in times of crisis. This year we want to bring people together to reflect and celebrate the Aussie Spirit, and honour and support those who are facing extraordinary hardship.

“There are many ways to participate in Australia Day. We encourage everyone to mark the day in a way that is right for them. The essence of the day is about coming together as a community, whether that’s gathering with family and friends, sharing stories, listening to our neighbours or attending one of the many community events,” Councillor Medcalf said.
