The Burnie Australia Day Special Committee would like to invite everyone to the 2020 Burnie Australia Day ceremony – an event not to be missed.

Burnie will celebrate Australia Day with the help of Australian rock legend, Goanna frontman Shane Howard at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre on Sunday 26 January.

Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said “We were thrilled when Shane agreed to come to Burnie for Australia Day, it will be very special and certainly an event not to be missed.”

From the red heart, where Shane penned his anthemic ‘Solid Rock’, to the wilds of Tasmania that gave birth to ‘Let the Franklin Flow’, he’s created a uniquely Australian voice. His songs dig down into what it means to be a modern Australian.

Mayor Kons said “We are equally exited that Robyn Moore is joining us as our Guest Speaker and Australia Day Ambassador - Robyn claims to have been in every home in Australia although – you may not know who she is...until she speaks (I won’t spoil that now – but if you’re under 35 you will know Robyn).

“Robyn was the National Communicator of the year, is an Ambassador for Dragons Abreast Australia, the Australian Childhood Foundation and has been National Patron of Make-A-Wish Australia for 26 years…recently winning  the “International Make-A-Wish Volunteer of the Year” Award. She has also been an Australia Day Ambassador for 25 years and said she is thrilled to be celebrating Australia Day with our vibrant Burnie Community!”

The program includes a Citizenship Ceremony as well as the presentation of Burnie’s Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year awards.

The Australian Army Band Corp Tasmania will also be playing during the ceremony.

Morning tea will be held following the ceremony, this is a FREE event and all members of our community are very welcome to attend.
