17 local communities across Baw Baw will host free and family-friendly events to celebrate Australia Day with everyone welcome to join in the fun.

Community events on Sunday 26 January will be held in:

Aberfeldy

12.00pm at Cullens Flat Join in a free community lunch and flag raising ceremony.

Cloverlea

12.00pm at Darnum/Ellinbank CFA Celebrate Australia Day with a free barbecue.

Drouin

7.30am breakfast at the Anglican Parish Hall Free breakfast including guest speaker Russell Ford of Longwarry (speaking about volunteering in Australia). There will be music by the Warragul Brass Ensemble and local vocalist Margaret Schellekens. Bookings are essential - please RSVP by Tuesday 21 January on 5624 2411 or in person at one of Council’s customer service centres in Drouin and Warragul.

Due to lack of volunteer resourcing there will be no afternoon event in Drouin Civic Park.

Hill End

6.00pm at the Hill End Community Centre (formerly Old Hill End School) Celebrate with a flag raising ceremony and national anthem followed by a free two-course meal including a trivia quiz.

Erica

9.00am arrival for 10.00am cricket match at the Erica Caravan Park $5 entry per person to play, proceeds go to the CFA. Call the caravan park on 5165 3315 to secure a place. Enjoy a sausage sizzle by the Lions, drinks available. BYO Picnic chairs and drinks.

Jindivick

6.00pm at Kydd-Parke Reserve Join in a flag raising ceremony and national anthem followed by a free family barbecue. Bring a salad to share.

Labertouche

4.30pm at the Labertouche Community Centre Join in a family cricket match followed by a free dinner (lamb rolls and salads). Cold drinks available to purchase. Bring the family for a fun-filled afternoon and evening.

Longwarry

11:00am - 2.00pm at Bennett Street Park Come along and enjoy a free sausage sizzle and activities for the whole family including music, a jumping castle, face painting, CFA display, vintage car and truck display, games, free plant potting workshop and lots of free giveaways.

Narracan

7:00pm at the Narracan Hall Celebrate Australia Day with a free family barbecue. Bring a salad or dessert to share.

Neerim South

5.00pm at the Neerim South Skate Park Come along for our community barbeque and lots of fun family activities. Sausages, salads, sweets and soft drinks supplied. The Neerim District Community Citizen of the Year will be announced. 

Shady Creek

12:00pm at the Shady Creek Hall Free barbecue lunch and Aussie sweets. Enjoy entertainment, games, competitions and activities for a fun filled day.

Tanjil South

12.00pm at the Tanjil South Hall Join in a flag raising ceremony followed by a free family barbecue lunch including refreshments. Enjoy some Aussie music, a quiz and prizes for best dressed Aussie!  BYO other drinks. 

Tetoora Road

6.00pm at the Tetoora Road Community Centre Join in a flag raising ceremony and national anthem followed by a free family barbecue dinner. Meat, bread and desserts will be provided as well as icy poles for the kids. BYO everything else such as drinks and salads.

Thorpdale

10:30am at Pioneer Park Join in a flag raising ceremony and national anthem followed by a free family sausage sizzle.

Trafalgar

8.00am at Trafalgar Public Hall Trafalgar’s Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year will be announced. Join in the annual free breakfast event – no bookings necessary.

Warragul

10.15am arrival for 10.30am ceremony in Civic Park The community is invited to attend a formal Citizenship Ceremony hosted by Mayor Cr Danny Goss to welcome our Shire’s newest Australian Citizens and their families. A flag raising ceremony will be led by the Scouts and Girl Guides including a special performance by the Warragul Municipal Band. Following the ceremony, join in a free community barbecue with some refreshments and vegetarian options available.

Yarragon

8.30am at Market Street Park (Corner Market & Murray Street) Join in a flag raising ceremony with the local CFA, followed by free breakfast of bacon and egg sandwiches. Enjoy music by local talents, a guest speaker, traditional thong throwing contest and activities run by the CFA.
