Council to provide additional weekly green bin collections
Blue Mountains 7 Jan 2020

Blue Mountains City Council is offering weekly green bin collections from Monday 13 – Friday 31 January, 2020.

Residents will be able to put their red and green bins out every week from 13 January, until the end of the month. Yellow bins will go out as normal (fortnightly).

This service is in addition to the free green waste service at both Katoomba and Blaxland Waste Management Facilities, which is also available until Friday 31 January, 2020.

Mayor Mark Greenhill said Council has been working hard to provide every assistance possible to residents.

“Unfortunately we still have a way to go before the bush fire situation eases, and Council will continue to support residents and help those who are still preparing their properties for bush fires, in any way we can,” Mayor Greenhill said.

“Extending this service means we can ensure every member of the community has as much assistance as we are able to provide.

“Finding additional trucks and staff to provide the weekly green bin service has been a challenge, as waste resources across the state are also providing assistance with the unprecedented bush fire response effort.

“It’s a testament to the dedication and perseverance of Council staff and our contractor, JJ Richards, that they continue to find ways to get these extra services for our community during this critical preparation time,” he concluded.

The NSW RFS has urged residents to get ready given fires are north and south of the City. The new Erskine Creek Fire (formerly part of the Green Wattle Creek Fire) is now in the Blue Mountains Local Government Area, and is south of Blue Mountains villages. Crews are working to prepare containment lines and will undertake significant backburning operations when conditions allow.

A series of community meetings are being held throughout the Blue Mountains during this week for residents to get information and updates on the Erskine Creek Fire situation and preparations. Meeting locations and times will be announced on the RFS Blue Mountains District Facebook page and Council’s Facebook page.
