Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale, OAM has launched the Blacktown City Council Bushfire Appeal as part of Council’s response to the fires that have devastated so much of NSW.

Mayor Bleasdale said; “We send our deepest condolences to all those communities who have lost lives, property, livestock and so much of their natural environment and Council will now be providing practical assistance to those communities.

“We are setting up collection points throughout the City where residents can donate items to be distributed to victims of the fires and to evacuation centres.

“So far Blacktown City has fortunately escaped the worst fires and Council has vowed to do all it can to assist those councils and their residents throughout the State who have been affected so heavily by the bushfires.”

“Our residents and businesses always step forward when help is needed and through the Blacktown City Council Bushfire Appeal we will provide the necessary infrastructure to allow people to donate goods and money to those communities that are in need.”

The Blacktown City Council Bushfire Appeal will accept donations of:

Non-perishable foodstuffs (cans and dry packaged goods) Personal hygiene items including disposable nappies, toothpaste, soap *See below for list of items

Residents are asked to only donate items on the list. No second hand clothing or perishable food will be accepted.

These items can be left at:

Our Library @ The Mount Druitt Hub, Ayres Grove, Mount Druitt

Dennis Johnson Library, corner Stanhope Parkway and Sentry Drive, Stanhope Gardens

Riverstone Library & Digital Hub,  Riverstone Village, corner Market Street and Riverstone Parade, Riverstone

Lalor Park Library, corner Freeman Street and Northcott Road, Lalor Park

Max Webber Library,  Corner Alpla Street and Flushcombe Road, Blacktown

Council is also encouraging people to make monetary donations to assist bushfire victims and the recovery.

“Charities and the Rural Fire Service have told us that donating money is probably the best way people can help during this emergency.  Council is currently establishing a facility to accept monetary donations,” Mayor Bleasdale said.

“Council will be liaising with other councils through Local Government NSW to ascertain what other assistance can be provided such as vehicles and machinery to be used in recovery operations,” Mayor Bleasdale said.

“We have already made offers of assistance to fellow WSROC partners (Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils) Blue Mountains, Lithgow and Hawkesbury.

“Council is establishing a process whereby our staff can volunteer to be part of the bushfire response and recovery process.

“This work may range from vehicle maintenance, property clearing and fence repair right through to assistance with the fast tracking of invoice processing and applications.”

Blacktown residents and businesses can now make online, credit card and ‘over the counter’ cash donations to the Blacktown City Council Bushfire Appeal.

Residents have already been donating non-perishable, packaged foodstuffs and personal hygiene items at our libraries and at Council’s Administration Centre in Blacktown and those donations will be distributed to the victims of the bushfires.

Charities and the Rural Fire Service say donating money is now the best way people can help during this emergency.
