Friday, 20 December: A new playground at Len Packham Reserve in Coolbellup promises a combination of nature and adventure. opens in a new window The $500,000 nature play space includes a stacked log climb, a spiral ladder climb, a net tunnel bridge, climbing ropes and a dry creek bed with rocks.

Wednesday, 18 December: Work on a primary school in Treeby will begin in late 2020 with its first students attending from the start of 2022. opens in a new window The $20.3 million Treeby (Banjup West) primary school will be built with a permanent capacity for 540 students from Kindergarten to Year 6, on Sapphire Drive.

A water feature, created for local Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoos and other birds, now provides a vital water source this summer in the Cockatoo Food Garden at Goodwill Park, Atwell. opens in a new window Created by Hamilton Hill artist Melanie Maclou, it is titled Germination.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti announced that early works for the Metronet Thornlie-Cockburn Link would be integrated into the current Kwinana Freeway upgrade project to minimise traffic disruption next year. opens in a new window She said the integration of Metronet works meant traffic management would be in place slightly longer, but would prevent crews from returning once the freeway upgrade was completed.

The Minister also announced signing of a historic Metronet construction contract, as early works began on the Thornlie-Cockburn Link. opens in a new window She said the $1.25 billion contract for the construction of the Thornlie-Cockburn Link and Yanchep Rail Extension was the biggest passenger rail expansion in WA since the 70km Mandurah Line contract was awarded in 2004.  The 17.5 km TCL project will link the Armadale and Mandurah lines through the Thornlie and Cockburn Central train stations, and build two new stations at Ranford Road and Nicholson Road.

Monday, 16 December: Premier Mark McGowan and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti announced that the Armadale Road dual carriageway would be open by 20 December. opens in a new window On December 20, two lanes of Armadale Road in each direction from Tapper Road to Anstey Road were expected to open, along with one lane each way over the new Hugo Throssell VC Bridge over Nicholson Road. The entire $145m project, including landscaping and the Principal Shared Path, is expected to be complete in late January.
