Young athletes get a head start in Frankston North

A new state-of-the-art facility, providing an integrated academic and sporting program, will commence for Year 7 students at Monterey Secondary College in 2021. The Sports Academy & Centre of Excellence will help young athletes to develop their sporting talent and pursue a specialist pathway in health sciences.

Expert coaches, provided in partnership with St Kilda Football Club and the Frankston District Netball Association (FDNA), will help to deliver the program — initially focussing on Aussie Rules Football and netball. A wider variety of sports will be added as the program develops.

A Memorandum of Understanding between Monterey Secondary College and the Frankston District Netball Association was signed on Wednesday 4 December to launch the project. The signing was attended by FDNA Board of Management President, Corinna Harvey, Acting Principal, Monterey Secondary College, Peter Langham, and Member for Frankston, Paul Edbrooke MP and representatives from Waves Netball Club.

The project forms part of a world-class education system under development in Frankston North, with plans to build a $26.2 million state-of-the-art education precinct in the area by 2021. The plan is a partnership between the Victorian Government, the Colman Foundation, Frankston City Council, Aldercourt Primary School, Mahogany Rise Primary School and Monterey Secondary College.
