Campaspe town residents are encouraged to improve the region’s environment, image and amenity by requesting a street tree for their urban nature strip through council’s Street Tree Planting Program.

Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said the long term goal is to have a street tree in front of every property where the location is suitable.

“New requests are accepted until the end of February each year, with approved trees planted from May to August,” Cr Weston said.

“In the first year after planting and while the tree is establishing, residents are asked to help with some initial care and watering.”

Multiple factors are considered by council’s Arboriculture Officer when determining the best tree species to be planted including:

Neighbourhood character Height of the tree species Other trees are in the surrounding area Local conditions and climate Strategies or planning scheme requirements

“The right tree in the right place is good for the environment, creates shade and makes our streets more attractive,” Cr Weston said.

To request a new nature strip tree, or to replace an existing tree, lodge an online request through council’s website, visit a customer service centre or call 1300 666 535.
