Donated clothing builds job success

Donated corporate wear can change a life under an initiative to help Hobart women dress for employment success.

The City of Hobart, through its Hello Hobart program, is partnering with local charity Dress for Success, which accepts donations of good-quality second-hand corporate wear to provide to women looking to enter the workforce.

“Dressing for a job interview is daunting at the best of times,” Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said. “It’s even more so when you’ve been out of the workforce for a while and don’t have a suitable outfit or the money available to buy one.

“This initiative aims to assist women to enter the workforce by providing good quality, interview-ready outfits that will help them to make a good impression and boost their confidence.”

With support from the City of Hobart’s Hello Hobart team, Dress for Success will be at Elizabeth Mall this week to accept donated clothing.

Outfits will then be provided to local women who are actively looking for work or who are successful in attaining employment but do not have appropriate clothing to start their new job.

“If you have any office-appropriate clothing that is clean and in excellent condition and that you are happy to donate, bring it down to Elizabeth Mall this week,” Cr Reynolds said.

“You might actually be giving a woman the confidence she needs to get into the workforce and create a positive future.”

Donations of quality, second-hand women’s corporate wear in excellent condition will be accepted at Elizabeth Mall, near the Information Hub, this Monday to Friday from noon to 2 pm each day.
