Claremont businesses back Town’s biggest Seniors Week yet
Town of Claremont 5 Dec 2019
Claremont Town Centre businesses are supporting active ageing during Seniors Week 2019 with information sessions, events and special offers from November 11-17.

Town of Claremont Mayor Jock Barker said more than 40 per cent of Claremont residents aged 55 years and older made a significant contribution to the local economy.

“Our Town enjoys the company and vitality of a mature demographic loyal in their support of local businesses,” he said. “It is heart-warming to see so many local businesses helping to expand this year’s program of events and offer special discounts, to make Seniors Week 2019 our biggest yet.”

Among new features on the Town’s 2019 program is a classical concert in the private auditorium of Zenith Music, a family business celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, followed by a luncheon at the renowned Nolita Italian Café in Bay View Terrace, where the live music will continue.

Information and health sessions with local businesses include a foot care workshop, walk and talk around Lake Claremont with health professionals, strength and balance classes, a hearing clinic, yoga classes, and a cyber security information session.

Special offers and discounts include $2 coffees, pharmacy discounts and medication reviews, travel consultations, yoga discounts, coffee and golf specials, shoe and toy discounts, half-price entries, reduced membership fees, and complimentary health sessions.

Mayor Barker said the Town’s Seniors Week program of activities began with a Remembrance Day service at Claremont War Memorial, followed by morning tea in the Town administration building.  Information sessions, activities and social events continuing throughout the week include:

aqua aerobics and social lawn bowls; SHINE community services for independent living session; introduction to the Knitted Knockers; twilight cruise and dinner; heritage walking tour; dementia awareness and brain health session, Italian choir singing; first aid course for seniors; and a Mad Hatter tea party and story time with the grandchildren. “While Seniors Week brings the sector into focus, our Town is committed to promoting opportunities for social participation, health, learning and inclusion year-round – so we are delighted our business community has backed this year’s program to make it the biggest yet,” Mayor Barker said.
