Extending bitumen seals, boosting safety on the Landsborough Highway and improving the flood resilience of creek crossings have been identified as future transport priorities for Western Queensland. Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the release of the Central West Queensland Regional Plan puts in place a road map for the future for shires that include Winton, Boulia and Diamantina. "Communities and industry agree boosting the flood resilience of creek and rivers, improving safety on the Landsborough Highway are important for freight, tourism and connectivity to remote areas,' Mr Bailey said. "The RTP also identifies the expansion of bitumen seals on the Eyre Developmental road as a priority for longer-term investment planning in partnership with councils." The longer term plan calls for the sealing of the remaining 80km of the Diamantina Development Road from Bedourie and Boulia though at the moment there is only committed funding for 3.8km. Shorter term there is a plan to improve flood resilience on the Cuttaburra Crossing. The Central West RTP joins strategic plans for the North West region.
