Prohibited Burning Period brought forward

The Prohibited Burning Period in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River has been brought forward by several weeks and will now apply from midnight, Sunday 1 December 2019.

This means no fires can be lit in the open air from Monday morning. 

Chief Bushfire Control Officer, David Holland said the decision was made based on unfavourable weather forecasts and dry conditions.

 “We are seeing a combination of dry soil and fuel loads, together with strong forecast winds and high daytime temperatures.

“All these factors make it prudent for us to prohibit burning as soon as possible, to prevent potential ignition of fires,” he said.

“It’s a precaution to serve against stray embers escaping otherwise contained fires and causing havoc for our firefighters and our community.

“Most community members have been tremendously respectful of the fire restrictions and total fire bans that have been in place in the past.

“Please continue to observe these fire restrictions as we enter the bushfire season,” said Mr Holland.
