Stratford and Freshwater residents have say on future development

Published: 14 Nov 2019

Stratford and Freshwater residents value the leafy green streets; the community feel; cycling and walking infrastructure; and open spaces in the suburbs.

The community sentiment was revealed in a survey of all Cairns residents that asked what they valued most about the suburbs and their views on sub-divisions.

More than two-thirds of respondents indicated new lot sizes should be between 600m2 and 800m2 – 79% for the neighbourhood character area and 77% for the suburbs more broadly – providing enough room for a house, garden and buffer to adjoining homes.

In terms of subdivision, side-by-side lots were the preferred option.

The survey findings will be considered as part of a major amendment to Cairns Plan 2016 v2.1.
