As this year’s HSC exams come to a close, thousands of local youths will be preparing to enter the workforce, but not without help.

City of Canterbury Bankstown has partnered with Metro Assist, to provide free employment skills sessions on everything from resume writing, job seeking and interview skills, to managing disappointment and stress, starting a business and dressing for success.

Mayor Khal Asfour said the sessions were designed to give residents the skills and confidence to enter, or re-enter, the workforce.

“Leaving school can be daunting, but it’s also an opportunity to try new things, become independent and upskill yourself,” he said.

“Our workshops are suitable for school leavers, as well as those changing career direction, re-entering the workforce, or just looking to gain an edge and more confidence for their next interview.

“As a job applicant, it’s important to prepare, know your strengths, and be your best self in interviews, and those are the skills we are trying to foster in these sessions.”

Residents can attend the following sessions at Canterbury-Bankstown Business Advisory Service (CBBAS):

Job Readiness Training - Thursday 14 November (9.30-11am);Resume and Resilience Workshop - Friday 15 November (9.30am-12.30pm); andNEIS New Business Assistance Workshop - Thursday 14 and 28 November (9.30-10.30am).
