Sell-out Claremont river cruise returns to Seniors Week
Town of Claremont 13 Nov 2019
The Town of Claremont’s famous twilight river cruise is set to return for Seniors Week – but it’s up against some tough competition.

Setting off from Claremont Yacht Club, the cruise is known for its fast sell-out, with tickets in previous years being snapped up within two days of being released.

But this year, Mayor Jock Barker thinks adding a few other star events to the Seniors Week mix may give the cruise a run for its money.

“The twilight cruise is always hugely popular – and rightfully so! It’s a wonderful evening aboard some of Claremont’s finest boats, perfectly finished off with dinner and drinks on our return to the yacht club,” Mayor Barker said.

“This year we’ve added a few more special events that I suspect will be just as popular as the river cruise. One that particularly stands out is the music concert and luncheon. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Zenith Music will be hosting a special concert in their private auditorium, followed by lunch and more musical delights at Nolita Italian Café.

“There’s also lawn bowls, banter and bites at Claremont Bowling Club, which promises to be a relaxed celebration at the end of a great week of activities and, hopefully, new friendships.”

With more than 40% of Claremont’s residents aged 55 years and over, Seniors Week is an important occasion in the Town’s calendar.

As well as creating a social buzz, the Town hopes the week will help older residents find activities right on their doorstep that they can get involved in year-round.

To ensure the week is accessible to Claremont’s full senior community, all events are either free of charge or subsidised by the Town. A number of local businesses are also offering free classes, assessments and advice to help Claremont’s seniors live their best life.
