Gannawarra Shire Council’s Mayor and Deputy Mayor will serve in their positions for a further year after being re-elected unanimously to their positions.

Yarran Ward representative, Cr Lorraine Learmonth was re-elected as Mayor for a second consecutive one-year term during a Special Meeting of Council, held in Kerang earlier today.

First elected to Council in 2012, Cr Learmonth was Mayor in 2015/16 before being elected to the role in November 2018.

“I would like to acknowledge my fellow Councillors for the work they do and hope we can continue to work as a team to meet the challenges and opportunities across the Gannawarra Shire,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“I look forward to a busy year, one that will see Council work to complete the outstanding priority actions listed in the Gannawarra Shire Council Plan 2017-2021.

“We also need to offer support and advocacy around our farming and small business communities, and their families, to overcome the drought and the effects of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.”

Avoca Ward representative, Cr Charlie Gillingham was re-elected as Deputy Mayor for a second consecutive term.

It is the third time Cr Gillingham has held the position since being elected to Council in 2016.

“I will continue to build on the work undertaken by Council, working with my fellow Councillors to implement the Gannawarra Shire Council Plan 2017-2021, as well as encouraging new business, residential and tourism ventures throughout the Gannawarra,” Cr Gillingham said.
