Speed Limit Change: Huon Highway, Dover
Huon Valley Council 13 Nov 2019

Following a decision made by the Commissioner for Transport, the Department of State Growth is reducing the speed limit on the Huon Highway 80 km/h to 60 km/h. This will extend from the current 60 km/h zone for a further 1.83 kilometres travelling south from Francistown Road.

Following a request from a local resident in January 2019, the Department applied to the Commissioner to reduce the speed limit along the Huon Highway at Dover from 80 km/h to 60 km/h. The Commissioner approved the application and the speed limit is being reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h. This will extend the current 60 km/h zone for a further 1.83 km travelling south.

Dover’s residential characteristics have increased along the Huon Highway and the 80 km/h speed limit that was set more than 10 years ago is no longer suitable given the changed road environment.

Research tells us that even small reductions of 10km/h in travelling speeds can lead to a 25 percent reduction in serious casualties.  page on the Department of State Growth Transport website.

Please observe new 60 km/h speed signs to be installed in the area in November 2019.
