Time running out to recognise our local heroes

Released 25 October 2019

Time is running out to recognise some of our unsung heroes in the prestigious Community Citizen of the Year Awards, with nominations closing on 31 October.

Each year individuals and groups are recognised as part of Australia Day celebrations, with Michael Haji Ali, Jazmin Shipway-Carr and Cable Beach Football Club the winners in 2019.

There are separate categories for Overall, Youth, Senior, and Community Group or Event, and nominations can be made online at www.citizenshipawards.com.au.

Broome Shire President, Harold Tracey, said Broome had many outstanding local role models who would be worthy winners of these important awards.

“Nominees should be active citizens who have contributed to making Broome a better community for all of us,” Cr Tracey said.

“The Community Citizen of the Year Awards are an opportunity to recognise the special individuals and organisations who make a difference in our Shire, and we encourage community members to take the time to nominate a deserving person or group.”

Winners will be announced as part of Australia Day 2020 celebrations.
