Yass Tribune Mayoral Column - October 2019

It is no secret that the state is currently in the grips of a crippling drought. It is times like these that I call on our community to do what we do best, support and uplift each other, check on your neighbours and provide help in any way you can to those most affected by the drought. Together we can get through these times and come out of it as a stronger community.

There is financial support available to those who may need it. The Rural Assistance Authority provides information on a range of drought related grants and subsidies which can be accessed by visiting www.raa.nsw.gov.au.

There are also a number of other drought and community grants available that I encourage you to look at and apply for if you are eligible. These include:

Strengthening Rural Communities (SRC) program Tackling Tough Times Together grant program Fee Free Scholarships Sustainable Schools Grants Regional Mental Health Sports Fund Local Sport Grant Program

Looking forward to 2020, I would like to encourage all of our residents to think about an outstanding individual or organisation who you think is deserving of a 2020 Australia Day award. Our close knit community is not short of amazing people and organisations who go above and beyond to make Yass Valley such a fantastic place to live. To download a nomination form please click here or call in and pick up a hard copy form from Council’s Office or the Yass Valley Library.
