Rehabilitation of skate ‘halfpipe’ at Nuriootpa

Nuriootpa’s much-loved Tolley Reserve skate halfpipe is set to be upgraded to develop a new regional attraction for skaters.

The Barossa Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Jo Thomas said the rehabilitation of the halfpipe comes after 18 months of research and investigation into a solution.

“Through our research we established that there are no other halfpipes of this size in SA, so it will be a great attraction in the region for both local and visiting skaters,” she said.

“It’s not only unique, but also opens up the possibility to hold skate competitions locally in the future.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to deliver this project within a budget of $100,000 for the upgrade of the half pipe which will include the inclusion of an all-weather skate surface and a complete restoration of the framework.”

The upgrade will be delivered by New South Wales-based skate park specialist Revolution Action Sports Concept.

The broader consultation and consideration of a Council-wide skate park strategy and potential works is still ongoing and will be presented to Council in due course.

Works are expected to begin in late October and completed ahead of the summer school holidays. The halfpipe area will be temporarily fenced whilst most of the skate park will remain open and Council thanks users for their patience during the works.
