The Barossa Council is exploring water security in the Eden Valley region in the wake of prolonged dry spring conditions.
Mayor Bim Lange said Council is working with SA Water to look at potential water supply options following the decommissioning of standpipes at Angaston, Moculta and Eden Valley in 2009.
One standpipe remains at Mount Pleasant, providing non-potable water for public use on a user-pays basis.
Mayor Lange said it’s clear some landowners are facing challenging conditions.
“We know many of the natural water sources in Eden Valley such as dams and bores are drying up and some landowners are regularly carting water,” he said.
“We are working with SA Water to look at potential options to further improve access to water in this region, but stress there is no immediate or quick-fix solution.
“In the interim we remind people who genuinely need water for agricultural purposes that the Mount Pleasant standpipe is available for use at a cost of $5 per kilolitre, subject to conditions.”
