The Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition is about to open for its sixth year, displaying unique artworks created by our own residents.

This year’s theme Inside Out has inspired regional artists to connect with their creative essence and demonstrate this through whichever art form they choose.

The Regional Artists’ Exhibition is collaboratively planned and presented by the three major Western Downs galleries: Dogwood Crossing, Gallery 107 @ Dalby and Lapunyah Art Gallery.

This year marks the largest exhibition yet with 32 locals entering and 42 pieces of art in varying mediums submitted, with a significant increase in contributions from younger participants.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire says that a significant amount of effort goes into this community-based exhibition to ensure it is bigger and better every year.

“This fantastic program not only provides our local artists with the opportunity to showcase their work to the region, but also supports and encourages arts and cultural participation within our region, contributing towards the expansion of artworks within our community,” she said.

“I am looking forward to seeing what this year’s exhibition delivers this year and how the theme has been interpreted by the artists, I’m expecting some diverse pieces which will really get people thinking and inspired.”

The exhibition will open on Saturday 19 October 2019 at 5.30pm where prizes will be presented to first, second and third place plus the people’s choice, installers award and the young artist award.

The people’s choice award is based on the number of votes by visitors to the gallery and then announced at the end of the exhibition, so the organisers would like to see lots of people drop in and make their vote count.

The exhibition runs from 21 October to 10 December 2019 at the John Mullins Memorial Art Gallery at Dogwood Crossing, Miles.
