WENDY TUCKERMAN: Barton Highway key route to Field Days

Official Media Release from the Office of Wendy Tuckerman Thursday, 17 October 2019

The Barton Highway will play a key part in getting more than 20,000 visitors to one of the region’s biggest agricultural events this week - the Murrumbateman Field Days.

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said visitors to the field day would have the opportunity to learn more about planned upgrades to the highway.

“The Liberals & Nationals Government is committed to improving safety on regional roads, investing more than $50 million across the next four years to upgrade this important route,” Ms Tuckerman said.

“We are investing in regional tourism and supporting local jobs, with the Barton Highway upgrade set to unlock opportunity in the region.

“As part of community consultation, the project team will attend the Field Days from 8am to 5pm on Saturday and 8am to 4pm on Sunday.

“The team can answer questions about the latest planning and investigation activities, including environmental assessment and concept design.”

Ms Tuckerman advised motorists to drive to the conditions with heavy traffic expected on the Highway in the lead up to the event.

“With so many people expected to travel to Murrumbateman, traffic control and reduced speed limits will be in place for the safety of motorists on the weekend,” Ms Tuckerman said.

“An extension of the existing 50 kilometres per hour speed zone on both sides of the village will also be in place for the safety of motorists.”

Those in attendance at the field days will be able to get more information about the recent intersection upgrade at Hillview Drive and work planned at the Gooda Creek Road and Vallencia Drive intersections.

Community members will also be able to provide feedback on changes to bus stops and pedestrian access in Murrumbateman village.
