Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is seeking expressions of interest for members of a community consultation group to provide input into the refurbishment of the Soldiers Memorial Hall.

TRC Mayor Paul Antonio said it has been a long-time goal of Council to upgrade the Soldiers Memorial Hall for the community to appreciate.

“The upgrade will involve a multi-staged refurbishment of the building with the initial stage focusing on the maintenance and repair of the entire building, as well as upgrading the front portion of the building,” Mayor Antonio said.

“We want the building to be a place that people enjoy which is safe, comfortable, accessible and most importantly, promotes a sense of community as a gathering space or meeting place.”

TRC Property Services Chair, Cr Geoff McDonald said the Soldiers Memorial Hall Community Consultation Group will provide feedback to Council during the project upgrade.

“Members of the community, serving and ex-serving members and users of the Soldiers Memorial Hall are encouraged to submit an expression of interest to be part of the community consultation group,” Cr McDonald said.

“The community consultation group will be in place for approximately twelve months and provide feedback to Council’s Project Board on the refurbishment of the Solder’s Memorial Hall.

“The feedback of the community consultation group will help the Project Board on a wide range of information about the project including usage requirements, space allocation, heritage restraints and concerns, staging plan priorities and future opportunities.

“The consultation group will also report to the Project Board the outcomes of any engagement activities they undertake to assist in refurbishment of the building.

“The group will comprise twelve members including a Chairperson appointed by Council and two additional Council representatives and a member of the executive management of the Toowoomba United RSL Sub-Branch.

“There will be up to eight additional representatives from stakeholders of the facility including the community, serving and ex-serving member and users of the building.

“Anyone with an interest in being part of the Soldiers Memorial Hall Community Consultation Group should lodge an expression of interest form that is available by contacting Council.

“The application form will provide background information about the project and ask applicants about any specific skills, their ability to commit to the project and also ask for a 25 word or less response telling us how they can contribute to the community consultation group.

“Expressions of interest for the community consultation group will be accepted until 5.00pm Friday 1 November 2019.”

The upgrade of the Soldiers Memorial Hall is funded by the Australian Government through Building Better Regions Fund and Toowoomba Regional Council.
