Victorian Seniors Festival celebrations underway

Celebrations marking the Victorian Seniors Festival are underway, with a number of events to occur throughout the Gannawarra between now and the end of October.

Now in its 37th year, the Victorian Seniors Festival is a fun time for people to celebrate and try something new in their local community and further afield.

“A number of events are scheduled to be held locally for low or no cost, including the Gannawarra Country Concert, which will see Nikki Nicholls, one of Australia’s top session singers, celebrate the careers of Carole King and James Taylor during a performance on 9 October at the Kerang Memorial Hall,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“This event, starting at 2pm, is free to the community to attend and we encourage all ages to come along and enjoy the performance – not just seniors.

“Grandparents can also enjoy special Story Time sessions at the Cohuna Library on 10 October and Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library on Thursday, 24 October.”

Spaces are still available for the bus trip to Charlton’s Rex Theatre on Wednesday, 16 October for the screening of the 2019 movie Poms.

Meanwhile, celebrations will wrap up in late October with a free makeup workshop at the Sir John Gorton Library on Tuesday, 29 October and a Wetlander River Cruise on Thursday, 31 October.

“The theme of this year’s Victorian Seniors Festival is Get into It!, and I encourage all seniors in the Gannawarra to do that throughout October,” Mayor Learmonth said.

Details of all events are listed in Council’s Victorian Seniors Festival Guide, which features other community events occurring throughout October including Council’s popular Social Meals program.

Copies of the Victorian Seniors Festival Guide are available from Council’s Customer Service Centres at Cohuna and Kerang, Gannawarra Library Service branches and on Council's website.
