Nominations for the 2020 Mareeba Shire Council Australia Day Awards are now open.

Mayor Tom Gilmore is encouraging residents to nominate those individuals who have made an outstanding achievement or contribution to the community. “The awards are an opportunity to recognise Mareeba Shire’s unsung heroes who have done extraordinary things for or on behalf of the community,” Cr Gilmore said.

“We all know someone who puts in an extraordinary effort, most times anonymously, behind the scenes

“We want these people to be recognised.”

Councillor Gilmore said nominations are also open to community groups and events that have made a significant contribution through their organisation or event for the betterment of the community.

Nominations are not bound by specific categories and the judging panel will determine awards based upon application, in order of merit.

Residents are encouraged to nominate online at www.msc.qld.gov.au/australia-day-awards . Nomination forms are also available from the Mareeba Shire Council Customer Service Centres in Mareeba and Kuranda, or online at www.msc.qld.gov.au. Nominations must be received by 3.00pm Monday 16 December 2019.
