Volunteers honoured for community service

The City of Wanneroo has paid tribute to five volunteers for their hard work and tireless efforts to help the community.
The Volunteer Excellence Awards were announced during the City’s annual Heritage and Libraries Volunteers Appreciation Dinner at the Wanneroo Civic Centre on 27 September.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said while the hard work of all the City’s volunteers was greatly appreciated, the awards acknowledged people who had gone above and beyond.
“The volunteers who attended the City’s Appreciation Dinner play an essential role in connecting us with our past, celebrating our unique culture and strengthening communities.”
“It is often said that the greatest gift a person can give is their time and that is certainly true of all of the City’s volunteers.
“I congratulate this year’s Volunteer Excellence Award winners for their enthusiasm and dedication.”
The award recipients were:
Laleen Newbury – Resume Help Girrawheen Library For co-presenting job seeker workshops and providing excellent customer service to clients needing help with their resumes. Nasser Gamali – Resume Help Girrawheen Library For showing patience and compassion towards clients who are struggling with unemployment leading to 100 per cent positive feedback. Denise Cockill – Technology Assistance Clarkson Library For helping library patrons resolve technology challenges such as navigating the internet, printing and scanning. Ruth Horsley – Cockman House For providing tours of Cockman House which have educated hundreds of community members about Wanneroo’s local history.
