A $1.1M upgrade to Jingili Regional Playground will provide inclusive play spaces that are easy to access and incorporate a range of play options and challenges for children of all abilities.

Variety the children’s charity NT will be providing $60k toward the project.

“We will be commencing consultation for the project on 10 September and we will be consulting with users of the new playground – the children themselves – on what equipment they would like to see installed at the playground,” said Acting Lord Mayor, Robin Knox.

“The new playground will ensure children can play together regardless of abilities – to share the same equipment, or play side by side on equipment that is modified.”

“Not everyone will have the abilities to use all the equipment in the playground, but everyone will have a choice of a range of activities.”

“We aim to have Jingili become the ‘playground of choice’ for children with disability, their parents and carers,” Ms Knox concluded.

A centre-piece of the project will be a bespoke art piece, created by 6 local artists with disability.

Variety NT said they were delighted to have fundraised for such an important project.

Variety NT Chairman Foster Stavridis said “Once complete this playground will cater for everyone; it will be welcoming and inclusive for everyone to enjoy - young and old, families and carers, and people of all abilities.”

“We encourage the community to help us plan for the new playground by helping us answer these questions - Can I get there? Can I play? Can I stay?”

The consultation will run from 10 September - 13 October and include a fun and interactive questionnaire tailored for children, where they will be able to nominate what they do and don’t want to see in the new playground.
