Premier views plans for Coolgardie Innovation and Economic Development Centre

As part of a Regional Cabinet Roadshow, Premier Mark McGowan and Cabinet Ministers are travelling through the Goldfields to discuss innovation and economic development, regional industries and community health.

The Premier was joined by Shire of Coolgardie elected members, staff and community representatives on a tour of Coolgardie on Sunday 8 September. The Shire was honoured to also host the Hon Alannah MacTiernan, Minister for Regional Development and Hon Kyle McGinn, Member for Mining and Pastoral Region, 

The Premier was formally welcomed by Shire President Malcolm Cullen with a Welcome to Country by local Ricky Dimer and a recital of a Coolgardie poem by Vic Dale. The Premier also took the time to view the old gaol yard, a number of historical Aboriginal artefacts and the Shire of Coolgardie’s “Sharing our Shire” photography exhibition.

The Premier presented a $15,000 cheque to Coolgardie Day Celebrations representatives for the upcoming Coolgardie Day which is being held on Sunday, 16 September 2019.

The focus of the Premier’s visit was the Coolgardie Innovation and Economic Development Centre – a revitalisation of the Shire of Coolgardie Post Office Complex. The plans for the new Innovation Centre include Aboriginal Training Organisation facilities, a Cultural and Community Hub and a micro-business shared office space.

The Coolgardie Innovation and Economic Development Centre is part funded by Shire of Coolgardie, Lotterywest, and the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions.

The Shire of Coolgardie aims to build sustainable regional communities through the development of community, industry and economic development infrastructure. The refurbishment and activation of the historic Coolgardie Post Office Complex into the Coolgardie Innovation and Economic Development Centre will help deliver job opportunities and stimulate employment growth in the town.

The Premier’s visit concluded with an impressive display of vintage cars along Bayley Street in the Town Centre. The Premier took the opportunity to meet Coolgardie residents and visitors as part of the “Back to the Goldfields” Rally.
