The winners of the LJ Hooker Reg Cowden Memorial Sports Star of the Year Awards for the month of July 2019 have been announced by Lithgow City Council.

Mayor of Lithgow, Councillor Ray Thompson announced Zeke Evans (Basketball) as the winner of the Junior Award for July 2019.

Zeke is a member of the Lithgow Lazers under 18s and Senior Mens Teams and was selected in Team OZ Australia to tour America in July 2019. Players were selected from Victoria and Queensland, Zeke was one of the youngest players selected to compete.

The team were under the control of Brad Rosen who was a past highly respected Sydney Kings coach.

Zeke played in two junior tournaments in America over two weeks and was one of the team’s best players.

The Senior Award for July 2019 was won by Lithgow Bears Men’s Rugby League Team (Rugby League).

The Men’s side were successful in making the semifinals in the New Era Cup Competition and achieved outstanding progress throughout the year. The Bears accepted a lot of new and young players to the team who week in and week out tried their best and represented the Lithgow Community in a proud manner.

 “Council extends its congratulations to Zeke & the Lithgow Bears Men’s Rugby League Team on their achievements, and further encourages the community and local sporting organisations to submit nominations for these awards” concluded Mayor Cr Ray Thompson.

Nominations for outstanding sporting achievements in August and September 2019 will be accepted by Lithgow City Council until 11th October 2019.
