A Healthy Result for City of Swan

The City of Swan won four awards at the Public Health Advocacy Institute of Western Australia (PHAIWA) 2019 Local Government Policy Awards on Thursday, August 8. 

The annual ceremony celebrates excellence in local government policy across the State, focussing on making a positive impact to children’s health and the environment.

The awards were presented by Hon. David Templeman, MLA Minister for Local Government; Heritage; Culture and the Arts.

The City received awards across three categories, also taking out the overall State Winner. The judging panel commended the City for its holistic approach to health, environment and wellbeing.

The Planning Healthy Communities for Children category was awarded to the City for the design of New Junction Midland Park - stage 1, including the youth hangout zone.

The Healthy Food category award celebrated the City’s innovative Hangry Prevention project.

The Young People Making a Difference award related to several strategic projects including the Youth Café Takeover in Ellenbrook, Youth Out Loud, Youth Power and more.

City of Swan Deputy Mayor, Kevin Bailey accepted the awards on behalf of the City.

“It was a real honour to accept four awards today, including the overall State Winner of the 2019 Local Government Policy Awards,” he said.

“I am proud of the City’s achievements and want to acknowledge all of the work our administration does behind to scenes to deliver on our community’s vision for a vibrant and healthy community.

“The City is making major contributions through our programs, initiatives and infrastructure projects.

“We are dedicated to fostering community connection – from our careful policy work through to the innovative planning behind the New Junction precinct.

“I am particularly proud of the Planning Healthy Communities for Children award, awarded to the City for our work on New Junction, a project which will transform the heart of our City for future generations.”
