Casuarina Library is hosting an exclusive exhibition of objects of personal significance to the 2019 Australians of the Year, from 21 August to 15 September.

The exhibition gives the community an opportunity to learn about the lives and aspirations of extraordinary Australians who were awarded 2019 Australian of the Year in their State and Territory.

“This exhibition provides the community with a unique opportunity to get close to a group of special Australians who have made a real difference in the lives of many and are national role models,” said Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis.

“City of Darwin is delighted to be hosting this special exhibition and would like to invite all members of the community to learn more about these 8 extraordinary Australians.”

The free exhibition includes 9 displays of personal items significant to the eight State and Territory Australian of the Year recipients and one display of Australian of the Year trophies.

“Some of the 2019 Australian of the Year recipients are household names, we have all heard of the bravery of cave divers and rescuers Craig Challen and Dr Richard Harris, and Michael Long is well known and respected across the NT.“

“This exhibition gives the community an opportunity to get to know the person behind the awards and career highlights, to find out more about them as a person,” concluded Lord Mayor Vatskalis.

The 2019 Australian of the Year recipients include -

Virginia Haussegger from the ACT Kurt Fearnley from NSW Michael Long from NT Jon Rouse from QLD Dr Richard Harris from SA Bernadette Black from TAS Mark Sullivan from VIC Craig Challen from WA.

The travelling exhibition has been developed in partnership with the National Australia Day Council and is presented by the National Museum of Australia.
