Get ready early for the upcoming bushfire season!

Cessnock City Council is urging residents to get ready early for the upcoming bushfire season, as the dry conditions are likely to lead to a prolonged bushfire season ahead.

The best way to prepare is to head along to the Rural Fire Service’s Get Ready Weekend that is happening on 14-15 September 2019 at local brigades.

Get Ready Weekend is a family friendly event and a great opportunity to meet your local firefighters, get involved in kids activities, climb aboard a fire truck, and see firefighting displays and specialist equipment.

By visiting your nearest Get Ready Weekend event, you can do your bit to prepare your family and property. To find out about your local event visitwww.rfs.nsw.gov.au/news-and-media/get-ready.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said it’s important as a community we are planned and prepared.

“The continuing dry spell and the on-ground fuel have the potential for a very dangerous and long bush fire season. We need to have these conversations early and ensure plans are in place in the event of a fire.”

The Bushfire Danger Period (BDP) has been declared early in many parts of the state as a result of the ongoing dry conditions. It’s expected the Cessnock Local Government Area may too commence the BDP early.
