Finding your lost furry friends just got a little bit easier

Cessnock City Council is proud to announce a new way of reconnecting owners and their lost fluffy friends!   A new initiative of Council’s Ranger team, Lost Animals, is a page on Council’s website containing information about pets that have been found, hoping to prevent them being transported to the RSPCA for holding. The aim of the web page is to assist Rangers in returning these beloved family members to their homes.

For the last financial year Council impounded 464 dogs and 134 of those were returned to their owners. The new initiative hopes to see more pets returned home safely and quickly.

Council’s Principal Ranger, Jason Mullee is thrilled about the new website and looks forward to seeing the results.

“It’s a great initiative for pet owners and gives them a starting point when their much-loved pets have gone missing. Ranger’s see a lot of animals go to the RSCPA and never to return home. This new page allows for people to see the whereabouts of their pets as soon as they have been located by our Rangers. The teams can post a pet to the website almost immediately.”

There are a number of steps owners can take to ensure their pooch doesn’t end up lost! This includes ensuring the backyard is secure and that the animal is microchipped, plus the microchipping details are up to date.
