Snowy Monaro residents are advised that with predicted heavy snowfalls to as low as 600m and strong winds forecast from Friday 9 August to Monday 12 August, residents in the Snowy Mountains end of our region may experience disruptions to waste services.

Adverse weather events can impact on Snowy Monaro Regional Council’s ability to undertake scheduled kerbside collections. Residents that normally receive a kerbside collection on either a Friday or Monday are asked to consider the weather conditions before placing waste and recycling bins out for collection. If strong winds are likely and you have sufficient capacity in your bins to hold off until the next scheduled service, we ask that you refrain from placing your bins out for collection. This will limit the number of bins that may blow over thereby reducing the amount of litter being spread around the environment.

It is also possible that Council may not be able to undertake collection services due to road conditions. Some areas may experience snowfall which will impact the safety of vehicles travelling on the roads throughout the region. In such circumstances, services will be rescheduled to the next available day.

The anticipated strong winds will also have an impact at Council’s waste facilities. If strong winds are present patrons are asked to refrain from attending a waste facility unless absolutely necessary. Waste facilities will continue to operate normal hours unless weather conditions make the area unsafe for staff and patrons.

Council will monitor the weather conditions and advise the public of any changes to collections services or the operating hours of waste facilities as they occur. Council appreciates the community’s patience and understanding in this matter.
