Sunday's Byron Community Market a success

Byron Community Market managers and stall holders have thanked the local community and Byron Shire Council for supporting the challenging move to their temporary new home along Byron’s Main Beach foreshore last weekend.

The popular monthly market had to be relocated by Byron Shire Council from its home of more than 30 years in Butler Street Reserve to a new location to enable works on the Byron Bay bypass to get underway this month.  It is due to return to the Butler Street Reserve in six months’ time once the northern section of the Byron Bay Bypass has been constructed.

Byron Community Market Manager, Kate Hardman, said she was pleased to report that the first market in the temporary location was a success.

“Aside from a few teething problems, the market ran smoothly and the weather brought the customers out,” Ms Hardman said.

“I’m so proud of our fantastic team and very grateful to the Byron Council for their work and support and to our terrific stall holders who have been so supportive during this challenging time.

It only gets better from here and we look forward to seeing more local faces in our iconic beach location,” she said.

The Byron Community Markets are held on the first Sunday of each month.  Council encourages the community to consider their transport options to help reduce traffic on market days.
