From revolutionising IT assistance to building off-grid eco toilets, the community is invited to hear what the graduates of Council’s inaugural Startup Onramp programme have been working towards in the past 12 weeks at the CAPreneurs Pitch Night.

Deputy Mayor and Council’s Digital Economy and Innovation Champion Councillor Nigel Hutton said the free event on Thursday August 1 was an opportunity for the local entrepreneurs to showcase their ideas and share their startup journey so far.

“Throughout the course, participants have been working on ideas varying from building a personalised surfboard, dealing with eWaste and recycling issues, revolutionising IT assistance, building off-grid eco toilets and exporting locally grown Australian products overseas,” Cr Hutton said.

“Each team will provide a five-minute “pitch” on their Startup project. We encourage audience members to come ready to provide positive feedback and any contacts or information they feel would be useful for the participants.”

Cr Hutton said the Startup Onramp programme takes new and existing business ideas and helps entrepreneurs turn them into rapidly growing online businesses.

“Startup Onramp is an initiative of Advance Queensland which was created to encourage more people to become startup founders and to give them the knowledge, skills and connections they need to maximise their chances of success,” Cr Hutton said.

“The CAPreneurs Hub was established as part of this programme and is made up of entrepreneurs from the Capricorn Coast region who are actively pursuing a high growth potential business idea, or who are looking to take their existing business to the next level.

“Council engaged experienced angel investor Kris Trevilyan as the part-time Innovation Mentor for the duration of the course, which has provided positive results to participants in reaching their high growth potential.

“We’re encouraging anybody to come along and fill the room with not only family and friends, but also potential customers, future employees and investors. We also encourage other entrepreneurial types to attend so they can be motivated and inspired to become CAPreneurs!”
