(9/7/2019) Roll up for a Magical Mystery Tour of Hilton
City of Fremantle 9 Jul 2019

The Hilton Precinct Group is waiting to take you away on a Magical Mystery Tram Tour of Hilton hotspots this weekend.

From midday until 3pm this Saturday the Fremantle Tram will ferry people along a special route taking in local cafes and businesses, with entertainment at each venue and special offers for tram riders.

Hilton Precinct Group member and Hilltop Coffee owner Catherine McDonald said the idea was to raise awareness of local businesses and get people excited about what Hilton had to offer.

“The free tram will be operating for three hours where people can jump on and jump off at any of the stops along the way,” Ms McDonald said.

“It will leave from the car park at Hilltop Coffee every 30 minutes and finish at the local community garden, and we’ll have live music, DJ’s, face painting, coffee and dessert tastings and hamper giveaways.

“On the tram itself there will be talented and entertaining musical MC Justin Walshe who will point out all the Hilton landmarks along the way.”

The Magical Mystery Tour will include stops at Hilltop Coffee in the Hilton town centre, Rennie Crescent cafes and deli, Pound Coffee Roasters, Charlie’s Café and the Hilton Harvest Community Garden.

The end of the tour will coincide with the start of the Fremantle Festival event Glass Houses and Green Futures.

The City of Fremantle gave the Hilton town centre a facelift last year in an effort to slow traffic along South Street and create a safer and more welcoming environment.

The works included changing the colour of the roadway, removing the unsightly fences on the edge of the road and installing new garden beds and street furniture.

Co-convenor of Hilton Precinct Group Britta Mathews said another aim of the Magical Mystery Tour was to connect people within the Hilton community.

“We’re going to use it as a way to promote the precinct group and encourage people to come along to future meetings and do more things in the community,” Ms Mathews said.

“My main inspiration for getting involved in the group was to bring people together and to improve the local community so people can feel more connected and be part of something.

“It a great way to be involved, to meet people and to have a say on what’s going on in your community and be part of a movement for change.”

The City of Fremantle supports 11 local precinct groups. They are run by community members as a way for sharing information and maintaining communication between the City and the community.
