The community is invited to comment on a new youth strategy to set the vision for supporting young people in the Toowoomba Region.

Toowoomba Regional Council’s Regional Youth Advisory Committee chair and Community Development and Facilities portfolio leader Cr Geoff McDonald said Council’s Draft Youth Strategy 2019-2021 would provide a blueprint for recognising, engaging and supporting young people aged 12 to 24 across the Toowoomba Region.

“With more than 27,000 young people living in our region, it’s important that young people are involved in the development of their communities and have opportunities to shape the topics and issues that matter most to them,” Cr McDonald said.

“The strategy, which was guided by the input of more than 700 young people, service providers, youth support workers, educators, emergency services personnel and Councillors, includes six focus areas for Council to implement in collaboration with partner organisations and the broader community over the next three years.

“These focus areas are about helping young people have a voice and participate in government decision-making; linking with education providers, industry and community groups to enhance their employment opportunities and connecting with other young people in the region.

“We are seeking community feedback on the draft strategy until 31 July 2019.

“I encourage everyone to review the draft strategy and provide feedback by completing an online survey via Council’s Your Say website: http://yoursay.tr.qld.gov.au/youth-strategy phoning 131 872 or emailing [email protected]

Community feedback will be used to guide the development of the final strategy, which will be presented to Council for endorsement from September 2019.
