Claremont budget set to boost community life

Three community facilities – the Freshwater Bay Museum, Claremont Aquatic Centre, and McKenzie Pavilion – will all be redeveloped over the coming financial year.

Mayor Jock Barker said the plans demonstrate the Town’s commitment to community life.

“The Town of Claremont is dedicated to enhancing community life, whether that’s through our cultural event series, by providing and maintaining numerous green spaces, or in ensuring our public facilities are the best they can be,” Mayor Barker said.

“To be in a position to develop not one, but three facilities within one year – all while delivering a low rate increase of just 0.94% – really is exceptional. These spaces will go a long way in ensuring that community life remains the beating heart of our Town for many years to come.”

The Freshwater Bay Museum will be enhanced with a new community facility to support heritage programs, exhibitions, and events.

Claremont Aquatic Centre’s toddler pool will be replaced with a new splash pad facility, creating a fun, family-friendly space for children to get familiar with water in a safe yet exciting environment.

McKenzie Pavilion will be transformed into a multi-use sporting facility for all ages and abilities, with a large open space for private and community functions that utilises the existing vista and views of the reserve.

The budget also makes provision for fast-tracking the footpath replacement program, ensuring the project will be delivered in six years instead of the originally estimated 15, as well as the introduction of a new green waste bin.
