City of Darwin is holding a Quiz night on Thursday 27 June to raise funds to engage young, vulnerable Timorese and teach them new skills so they can gain employment.

Dili has been a Sister City to Darwin since 2003. The affiliation between City of Darwin’s Youth Advisory Committee and Dili’s Sister City Committee developed in late 2009 and aims to grow relationships and exchanges between youth of the two cities.

The first Quiz4Dili in 2010 raised $3429, supported by a sell-out attendance of 110 people.

The Action for Change Foundation (ACF), a Dili-based non-profit created by Timorese youth, has assisted in the distribution of funds raised by the Quiz4Dili. The ACF has already delivered a range of projects, including vocational training, sport for development and peace, the Timor-Leste Marathon Project and equipping the Vocational Training Centre with a Public Library and Internet Café.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said “I’m proud of the achievements of our Youth Advisory Committee; they have strengthened the bond between our two cities and through their on-going fund raising efforts made a real difference in the lives of young people in Timor.”

“I’d like to thank Darwin businesses who have supported this event for their generosity in providing prizes for the 2019 Quiz4Dili.”

Quiz questions will be general knowledge and there is more than $500 worth of prizes available.
