Mayor's Message - 18 June 2019

Published on 18 June 2019

It was a delight to join with community members last week for the opening of an East Devonport beach access project which aims to provide a well-designed formal access point to the beach.

The ramp is located on the eastern side of the existing parking area off Melrose Street.

It will increase the unstructured recreation, social and education opportunities for people of all abilities.

Work has involved weed control/revegetation along foreshore, the construction of a fibre composite ramp with handrails as required and a path linking to the existing footpath.

Council project managed and undertook the works on behalf of the Rotary Club of Devonport South-East.

While it was initially considered for families with prams, the ramp will also benefit the elderly and people with other ailments, such as arthritic knees.

The project cost $58,593 with $47,083 from the Tasmanian Community Fund, $7,790 from Council and $ 3,720 in kind.
