Alex Seton’s ‘Someone Else’s Problem’ will be one of the artworks on display at Dogwood Crossing, Miles during the ‘Safe Space’ exhibition

This new exhibition will be out of this world.

Coming to Dogwood Crossing in Miles, Western Downs Regional Council are proud to be hosting Safe Space, a major touring exhibition which will be displayed at the John Mullins Memorial Art Gallery as part of its national tour across Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.

This exhibition explores different ideas and concepts of space, whether that be abstract or real, physical, psychological, political and social in a diverse range of sculptural materials, techniques and scales.

Contemporary sculptures will showcase the work of 12 acclaimed Australian artists, Abdul-Rahman Abdullah, Alex Seton, Claire Healy & Sean Cordeiro, David Cross, Franz Ehmann, Karla Dickens, Keg de Souza, Michelle Nikou, Rosie Miller, Tim Sterling and Will French.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire expressed delight that Museums & Galleries Queensland have chosen Dogwood Crossing to exhibit their work.

“Dogwood Crossing is a cultural hub for Miles and continues to attract visitors and locals alike by delivering unique and high-quality exhibitions such as this one,” she said.

“Safe Space is a broad concept and I look forward to seeing how the different artists have interpreted the theme through sculptural artworks as well as hear the communities’ take on it.”

Museums & Galleries Queensland’s Executive Director, Rebecca Butler said that they are committed to developing and presenting high-quality, diverse touring exhibitions and Safe Space is no exception.

“We trust audiences will enjoy engaging with this thought-provoking, diverse, often playful, sometimes confronting exploration of Safe Space,” she said.

The exhibition will officially open on Friday 28 June at 6.30pm at Dogwood Crossing Miles and will be on display up until 20 August.
