All abilities beach access ramp at East Devonport opened

Published on 11 June 2019

An East Devonport beach access project which aimed to provide a well-designed formal access point to the East Devonport beach has been opened.

The ramp aims to increase the unstructured recreation, social and education opportunities for people of all abilities.

Work has involved weed control/revegetation along foreshore, the construction of a fibre composite ramp with handrails as required and a path linking to the existing footpath.

Council project managed and undertook the works on behalf of the Rotary Club of Devonport South-East.

Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff said while it was initially considered for families with prams, the ramp would also benefit the elderly and people with other ailments, such as arthritic knees.

The ramp is located on the eastern side of the existing parking area off Melrose Street.

The project cost $58,593 with $47,083 from the Tasmanian Community Fund, $7,790 from Council and $ 3,720 in kind.

Representatives from the Council, Tasmanian Community Fund and the Rotary Club attended today’s opening.
