Feedback sought on proposal to rename Rotary Park Kurri Kurri

Cessnock City Council has received a request from the Rotary Club of Kurri Kurri to rename Rotary Park, Kurri Kurri to ‘Col Brown Memorial Rotary Park’, after long serving community member and volunteer Colin Brown.

Colin joined the Rotary Club in 1976 and very quickly became an active and well liked volunteer for the community of Kurri Kurri.

Colin maintained an impressive career as a highly respected commercial electrician in the local area. Despite his busy work life Colin still managed to find time to relentlessly raise awareness and fundraise for the Leukaemia and Prostate Cancer Foundations. Colin remained a very proud volunteer and member of the Kurri Kurri Rotary Club up until his passing in May 2016.

The suggested name change is to recognise his contribution to the Kurri Kurri community throughout his lifetime. Residents are being asked to provide their feedback on the suggested name change before progressing the request with the NSW Geographical Names Board.

Council’s Acting Open Spaces and Community Facilities Manager, Kate Harris said we’re encouraging the community to provide feedback on the proposal.

“Parks are important places for our community to enjoy. We also know they hold importance to individuals in different ways.”

To lodge your feedback please email [email protected] or contact the team on 4993 4235. Feedback is being received until Friday 14 June 2019.
