The Devonport City Council’s $1 million Southern Rooke Street Renewal Project has been completed.

Over the last few months the section from Stewart Street to Steele Street has been transformed with nine off-street car parking spaces added, including four free 15 minute spaces.

Other features of the project have included:

Wider footpaths constructed with exposed aggregate concrete and stone pavers Additional trees and plantings A raised intersection at King St to slow traffic and provide safer crossing points and; New street furniture.

Mayor Annette Rockliff thanked retailers in the area for their patience during the construction phase.

“Council understands that it has not been easy for them during the construction phase but certainly the end result is a more appealing streetscape which we hope will encourage shoppers to visit,” she said.

“And that will not only be helped by more off-street parking but also the public car park between Steele Street and King Street which was developed by Council.”
