Civic Centre project update and cadetship opportunity

Work is currently underway on the old Lilydale Library building as part of Council's Civic Centre redevelopment project.

The first stage of the project has included:

locating, isolating and protecting existing service assets including sewerage and electrical demolition works, in ground service excavation, laying and back filling installing seismic steel to protect the building structure should an earthquake occur installing two 25,000 litre underground rain water tanks installing stormwater, rainwater, fire services and electrical conduits to the south and east side of the building.

Cadetship opportunity with Johns Lyng Commercial Builders

Due to continued growth, Johns Lyng Commercial Builders are seeking a confident and enthusiastic individual to join their Melbourne team in the position of Cadet Contract Administrator. 

This opportunity will initially involve working on an exciting new project for Yarra Ranges Council and the successful applicant will be based in the Yarra Ranges Council municipality.

Key Duties and Responsibilities Procure and negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers General administration of subcontractor packages, including reviewing progress claims and variations General site duties, including office and administration tasks Attend meetings with the project team Minute taking for site and client meetings Update project files and documentation Organise and manage defect rectification Proactively drive company safety, environment and quality policies, practices and procedures Ensure all work conforms to health and safety requirements  Key Selection Criteria Construction qualification (or working towards), or experience in the building industry   Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to develop strong relationships Excellent attention to detail and accuracy High level negotiation skills and ability to resolve problems innovatively Ability to research, read plans, compare documents and understand head contracts Strong time management and organisational skills Ability to work independently and in a high-pressure environment Computer literacy in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook (basic understanding of Microsoft Project is advantageous) Must have completed VCE or equivalent with strong English and math skills    Construction white card Current Australian drivers licence
