Cardinia Primary School is Mobile March’s most active school Published: 21 May 2019

Cardinia Primary School was yesterday awarded with the Mobile March trophy for being the most active school in this year’s Mobile March campaign.

Cardinia Shire Mayor and Port Ward Councillor Graeme Moore along with fellow Port Ward Councillor Ray Brown awarded the trophy to Cardinia Primary School’s principal and school captains.

During this year’s Mobile March campaign, students from 17 primary schools in Cardinia Shire committed to walking, riding, skateboarding or scooting to school.

For schools where active travel was a challenge, such as Cardinia Primary School, teachers encouraged and supported children to participate in laps around the football oval or basketball courts.

Mayor Cr Moore said council was very proud to have supported this initiative since 2010, and congratulated the 6,500 students who participated in the campaign this year.

“Health and wellbeing programs such as Mobile March are fantastic ways to encourage participation in physical activity, while demonstrating the value of quality time spent with both family and friends,” Cr Moore said.

“Council is proud to support campaigns like Mobile March, Ride2School Day and Walk to School each year because they encourage participation and demonstrate the benefits of being physically active in a format that children across the Cardinia Shire can engage with.

“Congratulations to all students who participated in this year’s event, and of course to Cardinia Primary School for their incredible results!”

Cardinia Primary School students walked more than 7000 laps of their school oval.

Cr Ray Brown commended students for their dedication to taking part in an active lifestyle.

“Students really got into the spirit and it’s great to see them looking at different ways to become active, exert energy and jump-start the brain for a day of learning!” Cr Brown said.

“It’s absolutely fantastic to see Cardinia Primary School students take home the trophy in their very first year of participating in Mobile March – congratulations!”
