City of Darwin Libraries will be hosting Morris Gleitzman, the current Australian Children’s Laureate and bestselling Australian Children’s author, over two big days during Library and Information Week (20-26 May).

An inspiring talk, book signing and simultaneous book reading by thousands of children across Australia are just some of the highlights of his visit.

On 21 May Morris Gleitzman will be giving an inspiring talk about the power of stories to transform lives. This event will take place at Casuarina Library on Tuesday 21st May, between 5:30pm-7:00pm.

During the evening he will be launching the 2019 Kids Reading Oz Choice (KROC) Awards.

There will be a book signing opportunity and books available to purchase at the event.

On 22 May at 10am Morris Gleitzman will host a spectacular National Simultaneous Story Time at Darwin City Library, reading Alpacas with Maracas by Matt Cosgrove. This children’s book will be read by thousands of children all over Australia at the same time.

“It is an absolute privilege to be hosting renowned Australian author Morris Gleitzman at City of Darwin Libraries,” said Lord Mayor Vatskalis. “I know the children of Darwin will enjoy spending time with him at one of the events we have planned.”

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. This special event will also include songs, stories and craft.

The Australian Children’s Laureate Foundation is sponsored by the Australia Council for the Arts and the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund and City of Darwin Libraries thank these organisations for their support in having Morris Gleitzman with them at this event.

Morris Gleitzman wrote his first children’s novel in 1985 and has moving and humorous style that has endeared him to children and adults alike. He is now one of Australia’s most successful authors, both internationally and at home and has books published in more than twenty countries.
